ARTPORT_making waves is an international art network and exchange project, which was founded in 2006 and is based in New York and Valencia, Spain. The goal of the project is to promote the cross-fertilization of art, science, and politics, in order to raise awareness for social issues, and to initiate public discourse.
ARTPORT_making waves is dedicated to exploring global issues and opportunities for positive change. The current series of theme-oriented exhibitions, contests, and special events is intended to raise awareness for Global Warming, its causes and consequences.
ARTPORT_making waves is a fiscally sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
CURRENT PROJECTS:
COOL STORIES FOR WHEN THE PLANET GETS HOT II is the second edition of short videos on Global Warming. Artists from all over the world were invited to participate in the second competition launched by ARTPORT_making waves. The 17 finalists were selected by an international jury.
The Award Ceremony and Screening of Cool Stories II were held during Art 40 Basel, on June 12, 2009 at Voltahalle.
The winner, Rob Carter, was awarded an artist residency at the Alquería de los Artistas in Valencia, Spain, donated by the Fundación InspirArte.

COOL STORIES FOR WHEN THE PLANET GETS HOT is a selection of short animations and videos by artists from New York and Spain. Their visual comments on Global Warming range from subtly evocative imagery to shockingly real visions. The COOL STORIES contest was launched by ARTPORT and shown at Scope Basel in 2007, JAM ART Mallorca, Valencia.Art, DiVA Paris, PooL Art Fair Miami, Lincoln Center New York, Bridge Art Fair New York.
